Our vocational training programme was formed to help our
young widows who have lost their husbands to aids and school drop outs
to help them with a skill to earn a honest living and pull them out of
prostitution.
Since 1997 it has helped many hundreds of women who have gone
through our course that goes for one year and they sit for Government
Trade Test Grade 3. After these qualifications the ladies are viable and
are skilled labourers eligible for employment at textile shops in
downtown Nairobi.

Twenty two ladies come in shifts to the vocational training
department in VPM’s Korogocho campus.
Their instructor is Mrs Lydia Awuor
We are
grateful to friends in the
UK
who have donated sewing machines and knitting machines. These are very
well used, but require frequent maintenance. The ladies make the
uniforms for the children in the school.
Needs : The programme needs staffing with a trainer, and the
sewing and knitting machines need maintenance/ replacement.
